There’s nothing like warming up in the cooler months with a steamy cup of hot cocoa. Recently I found an awesome DIY hot cocoa mix tutorial, and I decided to give it a whirl. Click here for the original tutorial.
To make this hot cocoa, I needed the following ingredients:
1. Powdered Sugar
2. Powdered Milk
4. Fine Salt
5. Cayenne Pepper
6. Mini chocolate chips
7. Mini marshmallows
The recipe also called for corn starch, but I omitted this.
To store the mix once it was ready for consumption, I purchased two mason jars, and some ribbon to add pizzazz to them.
Step one was to combine all the ingredients, minus the chocolate chips and marshmallows. 2 cups of powdered sugar, 1 cup of cocoa, 2.5 cups of powdered milk, 1 teaspoon of fine salt, 1 pinch of cayenne pepper (I absentmindedly put in two teaspoons of this, which made mine pretty spicy. Oops!), and if you are adding in corn starch, 2 teaspoons of this.
I mixed these ingredients together, and divided them among my two jars. I left plenty of room at the top to add a layer of mini chocolate chips, and the marshmallows.
The next step was to decorate the jars, which I did by adding a ribbon around each one.
Doesn’t it look pretty and delicious? To make this hot cocoa, combine 1/2 cup of the mix with 1 cup of hot water. Sprinkle chips and marshmallows on top, and enjoy! This homemade mix makes for a wonderful winter time treat, as well as a thoughtful gift for a loved one. Next time I make this mix, I would half the recipe, as this makes quite a bit of cocoa mix. If you’re making jars of mix for a few people, this recipe will probably fill 3 jars easily.
It turned out really yummy, despite me adding in too much cayenne pepper. If you make this hot cocoa mix, let me know what you thought of it in the comments below!
Happy crafting everyone!
