Hello there! If you’ve found this blog, chances are you’re a creative person already, or at least you have an interest in arts and crafts. In my circle of friends and family, I’m the only one who really gets into crafting. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sewn something up, or made something creative for around the house, and heard someone tell me, “Wow! I could never do that!”
If that’s how you feel when you see handmade items, be assured, YES YOU CAN!
Creativity is a skill you have to work at to build on, but it’s okay to start at 0. You might not be able to paint a masterpiece tomorrow, but you can buy yourself an adult coloring book and some crayons and be a kid for a little bit each day. Practice combining colors. You can trust yourself, and combine the colors that you personally think will look good (For example, a flower with blue and orange petals) or you can research the color wheel and learn which colors compliment each other.
Think of fun ways that you can add something extra to a regular item. For example, if you need some new picture frames for your house, why not buy some wooden frames in the size you need, and glue some white lace onto it for a shabby chic look? Or take the time to hand paint the frame a color you like? Look for ways that you can use your imagination while not psyching yourself out. Being crafty doesn’t mean the work will be hard, or that you have to spend an arm and a leg on supplies.
Don’t feel pressured into thinking that you have to think up every idea you work with. If you want to express some creativity in some way but are unsure of where to begin, there’s nothing wrong with searching for ideas on the internet! There are tons of projects on the internet that you can play around with yourself, and it’s always interesting to see how someone else’s mind differs from yours. There have been tons of times when I’ve seen something awesome and have thought, “Wow, I would have never thought of that!”
Play around with different hobbies. If you think you would enjoy knitting, practice knitting! If you think you’d enjoy home decorating, consider giving your home a makeover! If you own stairs in your house, why not paint each step a different color or make yourself a chalkboard for shopping lists? Take it slow, use your imagination, and don’t limit yourself. You’ll be a creative maven in no time!
Happy crafting everyone!
