How to Make a Tie Dye Cake This Spring


The weather is warming up, flowers are blooming, and winter is (hopefully) behind us. I’ve been enjoying baking cakes anyway, but this time I decided I wanted to whip up a lovely cake to celebrate spring! In this tutorial, I’m going to show you the way I made a tie dye cake in springtime colors. This method works with any combination of colors you like, so a tie dye cake can be the centerpiece of any theme you choose. Let’s get started!

Cake 1


Besides the normal cake-making ingredients, such as milk, eggs, and butter, you’ll need food coloring. I chose neon colors and used three: blue, pink, and green. You’ll need to use a white cake mix for this method to work, so make sure that’s what you grab. If you want some extra fun, pick up some cute springtime sprinkles and a bright icing. Cake 2

Mix your ingredients and cake mix as you normally would, but instead of putting the batter in your cake pan, separate the batter equally into three bowls.

Cake 3

Add as much food coloring to your batter as you like until you have the colors that you want for your cake. Mix the food coloring in well.

Cake 4

Once your batter is ready, spoon each color in like the image above. Fill the cake pan.

Once your cake pan is filled with batter, bake the cake as you would according to package directions.

And there you have it! Let your cake cool and then you can ice it, and apply sprinkles.

Isn’t that an awesome effect? You can make tons of different possibilities with this method, like a camo cake, a cake made from different shades of the same color, or a different combination of colors to make an autumn or winter-themed cake once those seasons come back.
