This was actually the second dress I made in this style. The first dress I made was my practice run and it came out pretty wonky, but the next time I tackled this style, I think I did pretty darn well! I had recently purchased a bunch of owl-themed fabric, and when I found this black and grey polka dot fabric on sale, I snapped it up and combined the two.
I made the sleeveless style of the dress, view B. The only difference between each view is actually the sleeves. I like to wear cardigans with my dresses, so making a sleeveless dress was ideal as there would be no bulky sleeves underneath the cardigan to contend with.
While this dress is shown in the technical drawings of the pattern package as made from one fabric, I like to be a little creative and mix fabrics. Both of the fabrics I used are 100% cotton, and it ended up being one comfy dress.
Here is a view of the back:
Because I’m on the petite side, I ended up modifying the dress to be 3 inches shorter. The hem now hits me at my knees. Something I didn’t modify, but will probably change in future dresses of this style, is the neckline. It’s pretty low cut. But that’s really the only negative I found about this dress pattern.
As a finishing touch, I added a few buttons to the front of the dress to give it some flair. I found the instructions to be easy to follow along with and understand, and the dress can be done over the weekend if you have some time to sit down and knock it out.
If you have worked with this pattern yourself, let me know what you thought of it!
